Leaves chewed by small dog
Years and years ago
Tremendous yard, full of leaves
Oak, maple, chestnut
Blisters from raking
Pile near the swingset, and jump
Crunch rustle and crunch
Shuffle through the leaves
Lie beneath the leaves and sniff
The scent of fall: leaves
Leaves begging entrance
Leaves clustering by the door
Leaves in the hallway
Tuckered out, they rest
I hesitate to sweep them
They are welcome here.
